This year Hume has started a kindness club that runs Tuesdays at lunch. The purpose of the kindness club is to help others, be inclusive and fair, and be a leader in kindness. The club has about 20 students in grades 4 and 5 who organize and lead events that promote a culture of kindness.

Halloween Hunger 2024 was a big success. We managed as a school community, along with the surrounding community to achieve 700 pounds of food donations that were then delivered to the Nelson Community Food Center. A thank you to all the students, families, and parent volunteers who helped in food collection, weighing, transportation, and delivery.

On November 8th, the Hume School community honored Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day with an assembly. The assembly included several class contributions, a school-wide singing of "Just one Candle", David Hoggs piping of a Lament, and the presence of Board Trustee, Murray Shunter. A beautiful assembly to be a part of.

Chair Dawn Lang and Vice-Chair Julie Bremner were re-elected by acclamation to serve a second term in their leadership roles for the School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Board of Education at the inaugural meeting of the board held in public on November 12.

On Thursday, May 9th, the Hume Elementary School in collaboration with the Elephant Mountain Literary Festival (EMLF) committee was fortunate to host Vancouver author Tanya Lloyd Kyi in the Hume School Library.  On May 9th, Tanya was at Hume School to deliver three presentations for students in Grades 1-5.
