Monsters Come to Life: A Cross-Campus Collaboration
For the second year in a row, Mrs. Mushumanski’s Grade 3/4 class engaged in a creative collaboration with Selkirk College’s Digital Arts students. In January, the elementary students let their imaginations soar as they designed unique monsters and wrote detailed descriptive paragraphs to bring their characters to life. This spring, the young authors visited the Tenth Street Campus, where they were warmly welcomed by instructor Kerry Pagdin and the Selkirk students. There, they were thrilled to meet their digital art partners and see their monsters transformed into vibrant digital creations. Despite having fewer post-secondary students than elementary participants, the Selkirk students enthusiastically took on multiple projects to ensure each monster came to life. The visit concluded with conversation, connection, and a celebratory monster cake—capping off a meaningful learning experience that blended literacy, creativity, and cross-age collaboration.
At a recent school-wide assembly, several students from Mrs. Mushmanski's class shared their writing piece and the final monster picture to the captivated Hume student and staff audience.
Fantastic learning, Mrs. Mushumanski's class.
