Tales of lightning strikes and meeting mishaps 

Preparations for Hume Elementary’s centennial celebration on June 1 are well underway. Staff and students at Hume are working with the Nelson Museum, Archives and Gallery on historical presentations and an archival display including tales of teaching, learning and extraordinary events at the school over the past 100 years.

The following school principal and vice-principal transfers and appointments for the 2023-2024 school year will come into effect on August 1, 2023:  

Principal Transfers

Principal Dawn Snell will transfer from Salmo Elementary to South Nelson Elementary.

Above the front entrance to Hume Elementary School the year “1923” is emblazoned in concrete along with the school’s name. This year marks the hundredth anniversary since the building was first opened and students filed into classrooms to learn to read, write, and do arithmetic at their wooden desks.

Hume School just finished their Winter Activities in February 2023.  All students and staff of Hume participated in Winter Activities on each of the Tuesday's in February.  The break-down of activities were as follows: Kindergarten - outdoor activities, grade 1 - skating, grade 2 - snowshoeing, grade 3 - Nordic skiing, grade 4/5 - Whitewater skiing and snowboarding.

On January 13th, Hume Elementary hosted a district volleyball tournament for grade 4-6 students in the surrounding schools.  The energy, excitement and fun in the Hume gymnasium was brilliant.  Good vibes all around! Some excellent volleyball being played along with students taking some big risks out there. Great to be getting back to these sorts of events.
