Recently, Hume Elementary Students concluded an Artstarts Artist in the Classroom project involving an introduction to Stop Motion Animation.  In total, 8 out of the 10 classes in the school worked with Artist, Brian Lye, a local filmmaker, artist, and arts educator living in Nelson, BC.  Brian completed three sessions in each of the classrooms.

On February 28th, Wednesday, Hume Elementary School, honored Pink Shirt Day along with an array of schools worldwide.  Students and staff participated in activities around belonging and kindness in each of their classrooms and explored the story behind Pink Shirt Day.  All students created a pledge of kindness and created a mural as an entire school in the breeze-way.  Staff and

On January 26th, Hume Elementary School hosted the annual Elementary School Volleyball Tournament.  This year there was participation from 9 schools and over 320 students.  Exciting to watch all of the great participation, determination, resilience, skill, and fun demonstrated by all of the schools.  Thank you to all the schools that participated and brought all the positive vibe

For the second consecutive year, Nelson area elementary schools in School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) have received a generous donation toward food for students and families thanks to fundraising efforts by the Nelson Professional Firefighters Association Local 1343 and community generosity.

On Wednesday, January 10, the entire Hume School population was fortunate to have talented Djembe Music Teacher and Performer, Taylor Michael, share his passion and excitement for the Djembe drum. The presentation infused performance, Djembe learning, historical context, and geography relating to the roots of the Djembe African drum.

Hume School is working to introduce its students wholistically across the grades to the Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST) curriculum.
