LVR Secondary & Hume Elementary Annual Collaboration
On December 4th, two Hume classes made their way up to LVR Secondary School for our annual cross-school collaboration. Mrs. Keenan’s Grade 1/2 class and Mrs. Mushumanski’s Grade 3/4 class enjoyed a meaningful and engaging visit with Mr. Munby’s Senior Biology students.
During the visit, Hume students had the opportunity to explore, interact with, and observe a wide variety of biology projects that the senior students had been working on. In a fun twist, the LVR students had not been told in advance that they would be presenting to elementary-aged learners. As part of their project evaluation, they were asked to make their displays interactive and to adjust their explanations in real time so that younger students could understand the concepts being shared.
The Hume students were fully immersed—asking questions, trying hands-on activities, and seeing first-hand how the foundational skills they are learning today connect to the more complex scientific learning ahead of them.
The impact didn’t end there. The day after the presentations, both LVR classes shared that they had an enormous amount of fun working with the Hume students, noting how energizing and rewarding it was to teach and interact with younger learners.
This partnership continues to highlight the value of cross-school learning, mentorship, and community connection. We are grateful to LVR Secondary and to Mr. Munby’s class for welcoming our students and creating such an inspiring learning opportunity.
Thank you for the experience, LVR!
