Principals Message: April 21, 2025

Good afternoon, Hume Elementary School Community,
Well, I hope everyone had a fantastic Spring Break and Easter long-weekend. It has been some time since my last principal’s update. It seems between family, kid activities, and other responsibilities time is soaked up like a Spring rain falling on dry dirt.
As we leave the chilly winter months behind and welcome the fresh start of spring, it's exciting to see our students' energy and enthusiasm blossom along with the season. It has been wonderful observing our students engage in thoughtful learning experiences across all classroom spaces. Highlights included the Science Fair, outdoor learning activities, vibrant art projects, engaging dramatic plays, enriching math and literacy tasks, honoring Black History Month, applied design and technology initiatives, music programming, Pink Shirt Day, and our popular Winter Activities.
As the season shifted, students’ interests also evolved. Snow shovels gradually gave way to hockey sticks, soccer balls, games of tag, gymnastics routines, and other imaginative outdoor activities.
We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and partnership from our community. Special thanks go to our PAC, whose contributions significantly enrich our school's vibrant culture. We encourage everyone to attend a meeting, as there truly is a meaningful volunteer role for every skill set.
Lunch recess activities are in full force these days, with the PAC dance initiative for students each Monday and Friday, Chess club on Tuesdays, and Indigenous education gatherings on Thursdays. A huge and warm thank you to David Hogg, who just wrapped up the Bag Pip lessons on Wednesdays offered to several of our students. We are so grateful to all our parent and community volunteers.
Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and joyful Spring as we head toward summer. We look forward to welcoming you back refreshed and ready for an exciting final stretch of the school year!
Check out ClassDojo and the Hume website for ongoing celebrations across the school.

Key Health Measures
Please keep your child home if they are exhibiting symptoms (congestion, runny nose, cough, sneezing…) that may lead to a high level of transmission of communicable disease. We want to keep the student population and all our families as healthy as possible throughout the school year. We know how impactful it is for our families when students need to stay home. Let’s all work together to keep this number as low as possible.
Warm regards,
